Any advice on being the ultimate babysitter?

I'm 16, and I'm starting to get really into babysitting.

I have one regular gig right now. The family has a thirteen-year-old boy and a ten-year-old girl. I've watched them between five and ten times, and they're really easy since they're older kids. No problems there.

I just recently got in with another family consisting a three-year-old and a one-year-old. I babysat for them once so far, and they liked me enough to recommend me to friends who also have a one-year-old.

So I'm getting a little more nervous now that I'm branching out into younger ages, and I feel like mothers are far more up-tight when it comes to littler kids. With these incoming offers and varying ages, I was just hoping for a few words of advice.

My only other experience in child care is from my brothers. I'm the oldest of three children in my family. One brother is two years younger than me, and the other is nine years younger. I babysit them for my parents all the time, and when the youngest was a baby, I was old enough to help care for him a lot. But that's the only experience I have. I haven't taken a babysitting training course or anything of the sort, and I'd rather not spend the time and money on one of those. However, I did learned how to do CPR and the Heimlich maneuver on infants and young children in my health class at high school, so there's that.

I try to be extra awesome by doing the dishes or having the house kind of tidied up by the time the parents get home. I know the first family well enough to do this, but the second one, I was kind of apprehensive since I'm not sure of how they do things.

As a parent, what do you like your babysitter to do? Should I establish a set price rate per hour, or let the parents determine what they think is fair? Would you like someone else doing your dishes, or are you particular and prefer to do them yourself? What do you think I should know, or what skills should I brush up on?
